OSLO, Jan 9 (Reuters) - The chairman of Norwegian papermaker Norske Skog (NSG.OL), Kim Wahl, has chosen not to seek re-election at the annual general meeting in April, the company said on Friday.
Wahl has been chairman of the board since April 2007 at a time when Norske Skog has struggled with an industry wide problem of weak earnings, shutting capacity to support prices, and shedding assets, including its South Korean mills, to reduce debt.
“The company’s financial position has been improved through substantial debt reduction and Norske Skog is better equipped for future challenges,” Wahl said in a statement.
“My decision not to stand for re-election is exclusively based on a need to spend more of my time on other commitments,” Wahl said.
The company’s election committee will announce a candidate to replace Wahl before the April 23 annual general meeting, Norske Skog said.
Wahl will continue to serve as chairman until the board elects a new chairman after that meeting, it said.
